I have two wonderful children – a girl aged 28, who holds a Masters degree in law and works as a district state attorney. And a boy aged 24, who is taking a bachelors degree in music at the University in London UK. As a mum, I am definitely very proud of my children because they have grown into being very independent, always very loving and amazingly responsible children. I am proud to call them my children and for being their mum.
I moved to Denmark in 1989, and got married to a Dane at the age of 24. I obviously couldn’t speak the language so I had to learn to do just that. It was quite a struggle, because I had to start from scratch. Despite the fact that I had a good job in Tanzania and I also come from a very good family with cooks and gardeners to do all the house work, I had to forget all about that and literally start working as a chambermaid at a hotel in Copenhagen while studying Danish.
However, I did all this knowing that my main objective in Denmark was to ultimately excel economically and educationally. And so I worked hard towards achieving my goals. Within two years I had mastered the language, and I started to teach Danish as a second language to foreigners here. I took a bachelors degree in International Studies with the Open University in Milton Keynes UK, while working full time in Denmark and at the time I already had two children.
I moved on to doing my masters degree in African Studies at the Copenhagen University, again, while doing two jobs full and part time.
At the time I was lecturing at the Copenhagen University while working as a full-time language teacher and counselor for education and the labor market at a language school.
I now work as a labor market consultant. Setting my goals, and believing in myself during this tough journey in a foreign country, is what kept me going and I have managed to achieve the goals I had set out for myself.
I got divorced after 23 years of marriage, but that has not stopped me from continuing with my struggle to achieve even more of my dreams—namely, my AUTHENTIC STORIES PROJECT, which I sincerely believe has the potential to stimulate conversation and reflection on our lives, whilst instilling hope and courage to overcome adversity. Suffice to say, I am using the power that is within me to make the world a better place.
Hebrews 13:16 “But do not forget to do good and to share , for with such sacrifices, God is well pleased”
I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and personal Saviour about 7 years ago. This is the best thing that has ever happened in my life because I was able to find peace in my heart. Even though life still has its struggles, peace and serenity allows me to deal with challenges life chucks at me, with a positive attitude. I see possibilities in negative situations, believing that failure is impossible when you stand with the Lord. My resolve and strength to persevere emanates from within and pulls me through, no-matter how tough things get.
As scripture tells us in Psalm 119: 105 “ Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”
